Okay, since Alice's can cause some triggers, I would like to clear some things up. There are mentions of rape, suicide, and child prostitution, and the whole plot revolves around Alice being mentally ill. So I will be using cuts and warnings in her posts when there is a canon move dealing with those topics.
Now, chances of her actually mentioning these things when tagging another character's post are pretty much zero-to-none. She wouldn't willingly talk about it unless the other character stirs the conversation in that direction. BUT if for any reason you do not feel comfortable with Alice tagging any of your characters please leave a comment and list your characters with journals so that I know to avoid tagging them with her. The last thing I want to do is make people feel uncomfortable. Comments are being screened.
Finally, this is also doubling as an HMD post for Alice, so if you have any crit please feel free to comment.

Jun. 10th, 2012 09:49 pmMy nineteenth birthday is coming up soon. That means it would be a year since I've been out of the asylum. I guess that's some form of progress, though I hope that I don't regressed because of my memories. It's bad enough that I think old nurse Witless wants to send me back there.
Which reminds me, I haven't seen her in a while. Which is good, since I'm tired of giving her every last pound that I have.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS AND SOME POSSIBLE TRIGGERS DUE TO TALK ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS, SUICIDE, AND A MENTION OF RAPE
When Alice was a little girl, she went out with her older sister by the river, got bored saw what she thought was a talking rabbit, and followed it down the rabbit hole, thus began her adventures in Wonderland, that are portrayed in the classic novel. Shortly after those adventures, when she was around the age of six or seven, tragedy struck. One night, a fire broke out in her house, killing both her parents and her 18 year old sister, Lizzie. Alice managed to escape by following her cat, Dina, out the window, though it left her badly burned, but
she did physically recover in a year's time.
It was originally thought that Alice's cat caused the fire by knocking over an oil lamp while the family slept. Then Alice started thinking that she was the one responsible, by putting a long in the fireplace in the library, before the coals could cool, since that was where the fire originated. The fact is neither were true. A young grad student by the name of Angus Bumby, who was infatuated with Alice's sister, broke into their house. He went to Lizzie's room where it is suggested that he raped and killed her, since she kept turning him down. He lock her door and then went downstairs to set the library on fire in order to cover his tracks by killing the rest of the family. He did not expect Alice to escape the fire.
Though the fire left her with little to no physical scars, how it left her mentally was a whole other story. The incident left her with post traumatic stress disorder and survivor's guilt. After she physically recovered, she attempted to comment suicide but failed. She was admitted into Rutledge Asylum when she became catatonic, and she remained there for 10 years.
During her time at the asylum she was admitted to traditional and new treatments that came out during the Victorian era. Such treatments included blood letting by way of leeches and electroshock therapy, all of which she did not respond to. Sometimes she would come out of her catatonic state in violent fit, one of which resulted in her injuring two orderlies with a spoon and then slitting her own wrist with her makeshift weapon. As a result she would have to be restrained, by either strapping her to the bed or putting her into a straightjacket.
One night, of the tenth of her stay in the asylum, she sees the White Rabbit, and returns to Wonderland. Due to Wonderland being a dream world, its physical appearance is twisted into a nightmarish version due to her mental state. She fights her way through the twisted Wonderland, with the Cheshire Cat being one of her only allies and guide, to destroy the Queen of Hearts. As it turns out, the Queen of Hearts represents Alice's insanity, thus, beating the Queen would not only free Wonderland and return it to its original state, but also help her own mental state.
When Alice defeat's the Queen in Wonderland, she comes out of her catatonic stupor in the real world. She starts talking again, and becomes well enough to leave Rutledge. The doctor's have no idea how she was able to recover since she was not responding to treatments, but the fact is, Alice was able to cure herself.
When she left the Asylum, a nurse by the name of Witless, set her up in an orphanage in London run by a psychiatrist, Dr Bumby. The same Bumby that killed her sister and started the fire that killed the rest of her family, though Alice doesn't realize that, since her memory is telling her that she is responsible for the fire. Dr Bumby specializes in hypnotherapy and making his patients forget parts of their past. He uses this one Alice to erase the memory of the night of the fire, in order to keep his secret, and also to keep her insane. Though Alice proves to be a difficult case. His were to make Alice completely forget her past and then pimp her off as a prostitute, like he has done with the other children in his orphanage.
Again, Alice's Wonderland starts to become twisted again, this time due to Bumby's treatments. This becomes represented by a train rampaging through Wonderland, destroying everything, and the Dollmaker that is rebuilding things to his own liking. Alice once again goes into Wonderland in order to set things right. This time she goes back and forth between her dream world and reality, what she learns in Wonderland reveals the truth of what is happening in the real world.
She finally regains her memories of what happened the night her family died, and what Bumby has been doing to the other children at the orphanage. She goes to the train station to confront him about it, claiming that she was going to turn him in. When she does, he points out to her that people believe that she is mad and that no one would believe a mad woman over a highly respected figure of society. Alice then took the key that was on the chain of his pocket watch, the same key that was to her sister's room, and then mercilessly shoves him off the platform and in front of the oncoming train. When Alice leaves the station, she starts the see everything as a mix between the real world, and her Wonderland.
Personality:
Alice is shown to be independent, and often cold and sarcastic. She lacks a great deal of proper manners that are expected of a young woman during the Victorian Era. This is mainly due to spending most of her life in an asylum where as most girls would have been groomed to be properly presented into society. She often speaks her mind and doesn't care if she insults people with her words.
She also has a bit of a violent streak and not afraid to stand her ground in both reality and in Wonderland.
Though it has been often indicated that in reality, Alice's behavior could be pretty manic, even after she left the Asylum. She would be calm one minute and than erratic and violent the next.
Other:
I will be taking Alice from the time between the first and second game, so she will be around the age of 17/18. Even though she is an adult by Victorian standards, she still lives in the orphanage, mainly so Dr Bumby can keep a closer eye on her.
Due to the nature of her canon taking mostly in Wonderland, and since there are quite a few appable characters there, it will be possible for Alice to access the community while she is in Wonderland.

First Person (entry type):
[post appears to be handwritten, starting off in traditional cursive script.]
Yet another one of Doctor Bumby's sessions that has left me more frustrated than anything else! Why can't I forget what happened that night? These memories are making me sick. I nearly want to vomit every time I think of the fire.
[The writing starts to a bit abnormal now.]
These memories are leaving my mind in ruins! I feel as if I'm falling back to where I was before! If it keeps up, surely I'll be sent back to Rutledge. I'm not mad anymore! I don't want to be locked up again!
[The writing becomes more erratic looking, as if the is writing fast and not caring about how it looks]
But I deserved to be locked up! It was my fault! They keep saying it was Dina who knocked over the oil lamp, but that's not right. I was the one who put the log in the fireplace without checking to see if the coals cooled. It's my fault they're dead! My fault that I couldn't save them! I was the one who killed them!
[And the writing continues on but now to the point where it's illegible]
Third Person:
Alice made her way through the streets of London as she headed for the chemist to pick up the pills Dr Bumby wanted her to start taking. It felt good to be out and away from the children in the orphanage. She got sick of over hearing them make comments about how mad she was.
They should feel fortunate, she thought bitterly. They're not being held captive by they're memories. The Doctor is having a much easier time making them forget their horrible pasts.
She turned the corner, taking a short cut through the more morally questionable part of town. Several whores stood on the side walk and called out to any man they thought they could make a pound off of. Most decent people would avoid such a street, but it didn't bother Alice much. Perhaps because her old nanny was now a woman of such a trade, she couldn't judge them too harshly.
Alice continued walking, ignoring the offers for a "real job" by several prostitutes and madams, until she came upon an opening to an ally. There she heard a commotion. She would have continued on until she heard a male voice say, "Where's my money, bitch!"
She turned and saw what she assumed to be a pimp beating up on one of the whores. Most would walk away, and usually she would too, but for whatever reason she started towards them. It most likely was due to her already in a foul mood.
"Leave her alone!" she shouted as she approached them.
"Mind your business," the man growled back at her, as he paused mid swing.
"I will not," she said stubbornly.
"You want a beating too?" he said as he turned to her.
What Alice saw when she got a clear view of his face caused her eyes to widen. It was not a face of a man, rather that of the Jabberwocky. She started to back up in fear, vaguely aware of other voices of other people approaching. A startled cry escaped her when she backed up into something solid.
"Oi, what's going on here, Alice?" a voice said behind her, and Alice turned to see one of the local police officers, one whom she was familiar with.
"The little bitch wouldn't mind her own business," said the pimp. She turned back to him, and this time saw a man's face rather than the Jabberwocky. She had to shack her some to be sure that was right.
"Alright alright," said the officer, as he took Alice's arm. "Come on Alice, you look a out of it again. Lets get you a nice quiet cell for you to calm down in for an hour and we'll send you back on your way. And you," he said to the other officer that was with him. "Cuff and bring him in."
The officer led her away, with the sound of the protesting pimp behind them. She didn't fight him, since she was too busy trying to decided if what she saw was real or not.
God, she thought. Not again. I don't want to go back to the asylum...
